PURPOSE AND GOALS
- The study of theology as a preparation for ministry has been an important part of Helderberg College since its establishment in 1893 as Claremont Union College. Since that time, the Faculty of Theology has trained over 2000 ministerial workers who have served both the SDA Church and the wider community both locally—within Southern Africa—and globally. The Faculty of Theology’s teaching staff is committed to academic rigor, excellent teaching and compassionate pastoral care. The staff in the Faculty of Theology comes from a variety of backgrounds, thus reflecting the diversity we encourage within our student body. We encourage both men and women—in response to the call of God—to attend Helderberg College to further their training and equipping for service.
Bachelor of Arts (Theology) Degree (BA Theology)
- Pastoral Care – concentration in counselling and psychology subjects
- Evangelism / Pastoral Ministry – concentration in practical studies geared toward evangelism
- Theological Studies / Academic – concentration on Biblical languages & subjects, geared toward postgraduate studies
Programme Description
- The 4-year Bachelor of Arts (Theology) Degree (NQF-level 6) provides a foundation for pastoral ministry in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Apart from the core subjects the learner can choose from three concentrations. Each provides the basic training necessary for pastoral ministry employment in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Concentration areas: Theological Studies which provides a strong foundation for future theological or biblical studies at advanced levels; Pastoral Ministry/Evangelism which provides additional training in these areas; Pastoral Care specialization which provides additional training in psychology and pastoral counselling for those with an interest in these areas

Outcomes
- The successful graduate may be eligible for employment in pastoral ministry within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Other related areas of ministerial work include Chaplain, Pastoral Counsellor, Teacher/ lecturer, Evangelist and Community worker – project management
Further Studies
- Graduates from the Bachelor of Arts (Theology) Degree may pursue further studies in the following post graduate areas: Systematic Theology, Biblical languages, New and Old Testament, Church History, Homiletics, Pastoral Ministry, Evangelism, Youth Ministry, Pastoral Clinical Care, and Pastoral Counselling.

This is for Ass Prof J.A Japp, Farewell may the good Lord bless you were evr you are, Please you still owe HBC many articles to write to level of the Scolars, though your lectures were difficult, but I gain a lot from you how to take the bones out of the book.
